Prior to booking with your travel company we looked at a number of British tour operators, including some of the ‘big names’ but all of them lacked something. Then, something we read in a national newspaper led us to your website.

One email later you started to arrange a memorable holiday for us.

We were met at Delhi airport by one of your staff, Latish, and it was great to be met by someone with a genuine smile on his face. [Thanks Latish for being so welcoming and we hope you receive the photos we took at departure].

The brand-new car you provided for our tour was perfect. As for the driver, Manyik , not only was he an extremely competent driver with excellent manners and a constant smile on his face but he also looked after us very well. We have fond memories of Manyik and we should really appreciate it if you would thank him on our behalf.

The tours you arranged for us went extremely well. The guides were all very knowledgeable and didn’t mind answering my copious questions. Two of the guides [at Jaipur and Varanasi] were especially good; their explanations of history and Hindu philosophy were excellent. Indeed, one guide, Krishna [Jaipur] even gave me his email address in case I required further explanation – a very well-read man for whom we soon gained considerable respect.

Finally, thank you very much for your personal attention. Being our first visit to India we didn’t really know what to expect. Our correspondence prior to the holiday and during our first meeting in Delhi gave us the assurance that if there had been any problems there was instant support.

The tour you organised for us went really smoothly, we learned a great deal and we enjoyed every minute of it.

Dear Dilip, We had an absolutely wonderful trip and were loo z ked after very well indeed. We also filled up all the forms we were given along the way, but here are our comments in total.

MUMBAI
We were very pleased to be met at the airport on arrival and directed to the tour representative and driver. The rep gave us our complete itinerary and we gave him US$ travellers' cheques to cover the shortfall of our transfer payment to you. Our guide turned up on Sat as arranged for our trip to Elephanta Island, but no one turned up on Sun for our trip to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Park until we rang the office. A guide was located for us an hour or so later. Unfortunately my husband became ill in the car on the way and we had to turn back. I asked our guide to give me something to sign so that she would be paid even though we had aborted the trip but she said she'd been told that I would pay her direct and I gave her 300 rp, as requested. (I wrote this into the report I gave to the rep when he took us to the airport.) I also mentioned that it would have been wise to have checked the flight times (which had been changed) as we were taken to the airport far too early.

COCHIN
From this point on all the arrangements and itinerary went beautifully. On our late arrival in Cochin we were met by the rep who introduced us to our driver. The rep was very well acquainted with our itinerary and gave us good advice and instructions. Our driver, Satish, throughout the entire tour was excellent. He was always punctual, polite, well dressed, drove safely and made us feel very comfortable indeed. Brunton Boatyard was a nice hotel. (We spoke to you from there, of course.) Our sightseeing went according to plan and we had a particularly wonderful day at Thattekkad bird sactuary and were taken to a lovely plantation house for lunch where we were made most welcome.

KUMARAKOM
The journey by car and then ferry to the Coconut Lagoon was very pleasant indeed. This was a lovely location to enjoy the birds and wait for our houseboat. We boarded at 1pm on Sat 15 Jan and were delighted with our accommodation, our cook/guide and 2 crew. Although our itinerary mentioned Kumarakom bird sanctuary we did not visit it. However the cruise was lovely and our only complaint was that the air conditioning in the cabin was ineffective the first night. This was rectified for the second night. Satish was ready and waiting for us when we disembarked at Alleppey and transported us to The Hotel Taj Garden Retreat.

LAKE PERIYAR
We were a bit disappointed with this Taj hotel and thought it not up to the group's usually excellent standards. In particular there was no a la carte menu at any time of the day and the buffets each day were very similar. However, we enjoyed our trip on the lake and Satish found us a very good guide to take us to the coffee plantations and spice gardens. (When we arrived in Thanjavur 2 days later I discovered that I'd left a drawerful of clothing behind. Although I telephoned to report this, it was not found so could not be returned to me.)

MADURAI
We did like the Taj Garden Retreat at Madurai a lot more. It was what we'd come to expect from Taj hotels and we enjoyed our visits to Meenakshi Temple both for the night ceremony and the next day.

THANJAVUR
Then it was on to the Sangam Hotel. This was the only hotel which we really did not like. The hotel rooms were dingy and dark. However the chef there was excellent, so we did have some very good meals there. Our guide here was very well informed and a bit eccentric.

PONDICHERRY/KOVALAM
We enjoyed our time in Pondicherry and thought the Hotel de L'Orient was lovely. Also all the sightseeing between Pondicherry and Kovalam was very good and the Fisherman's Cove was nice, too.

CHENNAI
Our last stop at Chennai was most enjoyable and we think the guide here was even better than all the rest. The Park was a nice hotel with an interesting theme. All too soon it was time to go to the airport and our trusty driver was at the ready to take us at midnight. We cannot praise Satish enough. He really made a big difference to our holiday as we had total confidence in him at all times. Please do pass on our comments to his employers with our thanks.

Dear Dilip
Firstly I would like to commend your organisation for the excellent management of my trip. Congratulations. All was accomplished in a timely and efficient manner and I was dealt with courteously. Never once did I feel unsafe or lost. So thank you again.Certainly I have already spoken well of your company to my colleagues and told them that if they are ever considering a visit to India, they should contact you.The guides on the whole were OK and knew their stuff. The Jaipur guide was particularly good. I did wonder with the other two if it was more difficult or more demanding having just one person to take around, there being no variety or respite. For my part I was and am interested in the changing face of India today and the issues surrounding the culture - modern day. I would have found it helpful for the guides to be more expansive on such topics. Not sure whether I am unique in this persuasion.In the handy hints I would have liked to see more guidance about tipping. Everyone talks about tips and relates stories about tips or stands waiting for tips and this aspective becomes quite intrusive to Westerners, who are not accustomed to such behaviour. For my own part I would prefer to pay an extra 10% to incorporate gratuities so that one can relax on the tour and not have to fish around for the purse every few minutes. Of course, if a person has done an exceptional job then something extra can be given. Every time anyone moves on your behalf there is an expectation of a tip. I did wonder whether some actions are conducted out of common courtesy alone. The hotels were fine and I particularly enjoyed the one in Jaipur would have liked to stay longer there. I would appreciate any comments you have on the above.
